In order to understand more about this function, one should look at some of the important characteristics of human resource management –
Characteristics of Human Resource Management
Involves all Departments of the Company
The first and foremost feature of human resource management is that it involves all departments of the company, hence whether it’s marketing department or production department or finance department all these departments give inputs to the human resource department so that correct human resource policy can be made which not only helps the company in achieving its objectives but also keep in mind the interest of the employees working for the company.
One-Stop Solution for Employees
Human resource management acts as a one-stop solution for employees because whether it’s related to recruitment of new employees or their initial training or their yearly appraisal or solving the grievance of employees all these tasks are performed by human resource department of the company. In simple words just like the consumer is the king as far as the company is concerned in the same way as far as employees are concerned it is the human resource manager who is the king for the employees of the company.
Future-Oriented
If you are thinking that task of human resource manager ends with recruitment of new employees than you are wrong because recruitment of employees is just one part of the function of human resource manager the other part is to ensure that in future no work of company suffers due to non-availability of ideal staff for filling the vacant positions. In simple words just like the captain of the ship has to be ready for any turbulence in the sea in the same way human resource department should be ready with their plans for future problems or contingencies.
Universal and Continuous Process
Human resource management is a universal process in the sense that it is present at every level of the company so whether its top management or middle management or lower management all of them need the help of this department besides it’s a never-ending process as it keeps going on till the company is running. In simple words, human resource management will end only when the company closes its operations or liquidate otherwise it keeps functioning.
The link between Employees and Management
It acts as a link between the employees of the company and top management of the company because if employees have any problem they will not talk directly with owner of the company rather they will tell their problems to human resource team who in turn will convey it to top management, similarly if top management has to convey messages and company’s human resource policies they will convey it through human resource management and not directly to the employees of the company.
As one can see from the above characteristics that in this competitive business world if the company wants to be successful than it should have good human resource management as it plays a key role in shaping the most important asset of the company which is the human resource of the company.
