Lower level management is at the bottom of the pyramid when it comes to levels of management the other two levels being middle and upper levels of management. This level is also called operation level because it is at this level the majority of physical work is done in companies, this level consists of individuals like daily wage workers, supervisors, inspectors and so on. In order to understand this level of management one should look at important functions performed by lower level management –
Lower Level Management Functions
Following Middle Level Management Orders
The first and foremost function of lower level managers is that they have to follow middle-level management orders and assign the work to factory level workers so that work gets completed on time and according to the plan of middle-level management. In simple words, lower-level managers act as a bridge between middle-level managers and workers as far as communication of middle-level managers with workers is concerned.
Apprising Problems to Middle Level Management
Another function of lower level managers is to hear the problems of lower level workers and ensure that middle level managers are made aware about these problems so that they can solve the problems of the workers which in turn help in reducing the frustration of the workers and make them feel part of the company. In simple words, it makes them comfortable because in their mind they know that someone is there to convey their problems to upper management for the timely solution of their problems.
Planning Day to Day Activities of Workers
Lower level management has to ensure that they plan the day to day activities of the workers in such a way that work is distributed equally among the workers and there should not be a situation where some workers have little work and some workers are overburdened with work which in turn create hostile atmosphere in the company.
Good Working Conditions for Workers
It is the responsibility of lower level managers to ensure that workers are given proper working conditions whether it involves providing proper time for lunch brakes, providing enough lighting as well as ventilation in the factory premises, ensuring all safety measures are followed, providing good toilets and drinking water and so on.
Motivating Workers
Workers by doing the same job every day may feel monotony in their work which in turn will lead them to work half-heartedly and we all know that if we do some work half-heartedly than chances of doing work properly are less and that is where lower level managers can play their part by motivating workers to work hard and ensure that company sales and profits rises which in turn in the long term will benefit the workers also.
As one can see from the above that lower level management perform some very important functions and one can safely say that just like a tree without its roots cannot grow in the same way a company cannot grow without the help of lower level management and workers.
